Side - American Horror Story - Is Violet dead?
Over the last few weeks, there has been speculation about that Violet overdosed and died when she took the pills from Leah, even though it appeared that Tate saved her. I believe that Violet is most likely dead or if not dead, she is no longer the same person who first arrived in California. Instead, when she died and was revived by Tate, the house retained a hold over her. In either case, here are clues from the last few episodes.
Clues that she is dead
  • The last time we saw her leave the house was in “Open House.” She went to the school to find out if Tate was responsible for the massacre or not. It was after this that she was upset and took the pills.
  • Violet was able to see the ghosts before she took the pills, but it wasn’t until after this that Tate said she was now “evolved” and could make the ghosts go away.
  • On the beach, Tate didn’t want to be intimate with Violet. After the pill incident, Tate and Violet had sex. What changed? Also, Violet said that it didn’t hurt. If she is alive, the first time would have been painful, at least a little.
  • Violet hasn’t been in school for two weeks. And, in the last episode, didn’t leave her room.
  • When Vivien and Violet try to leave, there are two ghosts in the back seat of their car to scare them back into the house. If dead, Violet can’t leave the property.
...is Violet dead or alive?
Other items to consider
  • One intriguing clue that could go either way is that her parents call her out at dinner about her attitude. She says that it’s not like she’s going to kill herself. Hmm … what if she is already dead. Tate doesn’t know he is dead. So, is it possible that she doesn’t know she’s dead either?
  • We have seen Violet sleep, do ghosts sleep? Or, it is just out of habit, especially if she doesn’t know she is dead.
  • If she died, where is her body? Did Larry dispose of it like he did with Travis’s body? Or, was she revived?
Based on these items, do you think Violet is alive? dead? revived in an unknown state?
In the preview for this week’s episode, a guy says “You have something dead in your wall.” At first I thought it was going to be Violet. Then I decided it couldn’t be Violet; that would be too obvious. So, I guessed it was the dog. Whatever happened to the dog? I don’t think we’ve seen it since we saw it wasn’t microwaved. But, at the end of the preview clip, the guy is pretty freaked out. I don’t think a dog would do that. So, I don’t have a guess. Do you think it will be Violet in the wall or someone/thing else?

Here come the Packer Throw-backs

Aaron Rodgers sports the classic 1929 Packer Jersey
In this weeks game at Lambeau Field against the St Louis Rams, the Packers will be sporting the 1929 Packer Jersey that was re-issued as a throwback last year in week 13. While sporting the alternate uniform, the Packers ran over the 49ers in a 34-16 contest. Good luck Packers - lets keep on a roll!

When the Packers take the field on Sunday in their third jerseys, it will be the eighth time in franchise history that the team has worn throwback jerseys and the third time ever at Lambeau Field.
  • The jersey is navy blue with the number on the front inside a gold circle. The circle and number are enlarged a bit from their 1929 size to comply with NFL regulations regarding jersey numbers. An enlarged number is also on the back, with a nameplate above the number, another modification that wasn't present in 1929.
  • The helmet is a solid brown color without a logo to best simulate the leather helmets worn during the era, and the pants are a tan color.
  • The Packers sported the uniforms last season against the 49ers at Lambeau Field in Week 13, a 34-16 Green Bay win.
  • Prior to that, Green Bay last wore a third jersey back in 2003 at Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. In that contest, the team paid tribute to the 1967 team with a re-creation of the uniforms from that season.
  • Green Bay also wore an alternate jersey on Thanksgiving Day at Detroit in 2001, sporting a look from 1939. In 1994, the team wore 1937 uniforms in four contests as part of the NFL’s 75th anniversary season.
  • Here is a look at the seven previous games in which the Packers sported a third jersey:
Opponent/Date Result
at Philadelphia, Sept. 18, 1994 L, 13-7
vs. Tampa Bay, Sept. 25, 1994 W, 30-3
at New England, Oct. 2, 1994 L, 17-16
at Chicago, Oct. 31, 1994 W, 33-6
at Detroit, Nov. 22, 2001 W, 29-27
at Detroit, Nov. 27, 2003 L, 22-14
vs. San Francisco, Dec. 5, 2010 W, 34-16

Another long, hot week ahead...

Another scorcher this weekend around Madison, WI. Heat indices near 100 since Friday. The dog days have come early, and August  just starts today. Not looking any better for the next several days as an excessive heat warning has been issues for these parts. Here's a recap of the weekends highlights.

  • Went to the Mallard's game last night - so very HOT!
Special thanks to Pilch Barnet for the event.
  • Spent hours pulling weeds around the house yesterday morning HOT and sweaty - but that task is done for now...
  • Too HOT for outdoor activities Saturday afternoon, so took in the final chapter of the Harry Potter series - "Deathly Hallows part 2"
  • Managed to beat the HEAT on Saturday evening with some frozen cocktails on the patio with Mike Wood and his mom!
  • Enjoyed the AC and took in some of our favorite television : Sunday Morning, Whale Wars, Breaking Bad and lots of cable movies including a cute 2005 film called "Neverwas" that never made it in full release straight to DVD 2007.

Music Camp 2011

Cassidy in the 2010 camp
Cassidy came home tonight from this years River Valley Alliance 'Music Camp'. For Cassidy, this was easily her 6th or 7th camp in a row. Held for only 4 mornings once a summer, the group has been anywhere from 100-150+ kids and teens EVERY YEAR. And the church is on it's 14th year putting on such a music camp. Cass stays with Erika's mom and dad each year, and they LOVE having her, and will miss her.
However, this year, and e-mail came Wednesday night, that I would never expect...I want to share it with you...

Dear family of Cassidy,

Last night a dedicated member of Music Camp went home to be with the Lord.  Tyler was the nephew of two of our directors here at camp, a regular attendee of music camp, and loved by all.  We have called in extra staff to assist the participants if needed in dealing with this tragic loss.  We praise God that Tyler knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior and is now in the loving arms of his heavenly Father.  Even so, it is difficult to accept and understand such a sudden loss.  We wanted to inform you of this event and reassure you that we are continuing on with music camp and the concerts will go on as usual tomorrow evening at 5:30pm and 7:00pm. Please do not hesitate to contact River Valley Alliance Church if you have any questions or concerns.

Tyler is the young man, in glasses pictured above, to the right of Cassidy - the photo taken last year. She has known him at camp, for each summer...his extended family very close to our family. Tonight's shows were dedicated to his 'loving memory' - the performance was divine...Pastor Larry said - 'the campers celebrated that Tyler was at 'best music camp' with the Lord in Heaven'. I say - Amen to that....

Ramblings from an old & new again government employee - thanks UW Housing

So,  I'm very excited that Friday brings about the 1 month anniversary of my new job as Systems Administrator for the UW Housing Department at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Another chance to show my "Badger Pride"-this time as a full time employee (FTE) for the department and ultimately the State of WI - The Housing IT offices are housed in the tiny Swenson House building, part of the LakeShore Dorms.
Swenson House @ LakeShore

I worked for housing once before, as a limited time employee (LTE) in 1988-1989 as an assistant 'house fellow' of Bunn House in Ogg Hall (left). This is while attending the UW from '87-'92. The original Ogg Hall has been demolished and new one sits in it's place across the street.(Right) The new Ogg Hall houses our most modern and up-to-date Data Center for the Housing Department. A second, new data center is currently under construction at LakeShore.

You might think that doing Information Technology (IT) work for the UW, I'd somehow work for DOiT, the main technology depart for the UW, but, I don't. UW Housing has the ONLY other stand alone IT department on campus. We are like a "city within the city" of the UW.  We have guests that stay and eat with us. There is food service, catering and much more in UW Housing. With about 400 full time staff, UW housing supports over 7,000 students during the school sessions and this summer over 17,000 "campers and conference attendees" who stay in the dorms for various camps and conferences during the non-school year portion of the calendar. This keeps housing staff employed year round - and even though I'm a State worker - your taxes DO NOT fund my position. UW Housing pays for everything from funds raised via renting dorm rooms and selling food at our many dining locations...
